When is the deadline to declare a mathematics major, minor, or specialization?
There is no hard deadline to declare. However, it is in your best interest to send a petition to declare as soon as you complete the Program Declaration Checklist so that you can enroll into upper division courses during first pass.
I've completed everything in the Program Declaration Checklist, but I am not in a rush to declare. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to delaying my declaration?
Students should send us an email to declare as soon as all their pre-major courses are completed. Only students declared in official math majors or minors have access to upper division courses in first pass. Pre-math majors will have to wait until second pass.
What if I reach 160.0 units or have already exceeded 160.0 units as a pre-major or a different major?
We are flexible with students declaring at any time as long as it is at least 1 quarter before they graduate and their academic history shows that they will be graduating on time.
If you are adding a double major or a minor, you may also be exempt from the 160.0 unit deadline as long as your academic history shows that they will be graduating on time.
