Transfer students are typically expected to complete the major they were accepted into. We are not obligated to allow all students to switch into the Mathematics Department or from one mathematics major to another.
Can I switch majors before or during orientation?
No, transfer students cannot switch majors before or during orientation.
If I'm not allowed to switch my major during orientation, what classes should I take?
Your New Student Advisors (NSAs) are required to enroll you into the courses for the major that you were accepted into. No exceptions will be made to enroll you into courses for a different major you wish to pursue.
How can I find out if I'll be eligible to switch majors?
If you're curious about the requirements to switch majors as a transfer, you can contact us via email (ugrad@math.ucla.edu) after your orientation session.
Note: Students who want to switch to a major outside of the Mathematics Department will need to consult with those respective departments (E.g., Economics, School of Engineering, Statistics).
