ONLY for students declared in a major, minor, or specialization from the Mathematics Department. Students from other departments should consult their own major/minor advisors.
Do my transferred credits or grades affect my ability to declare a mathematics program or to graduate?
Transferred Credits are any course or unit credit granted outside of UCLA and successfully transferred into UCLA. Some students only have credits from UCLA, whereas other students have a mixture of different college-level credits. DARS only counts courses taken at UCLA toward your official UCLA GPA. See below for examples.
Example 1
All credits are from UCLA, so all letter grades and units are accounted into UCLA GPA.
Example 2
Math 33A and 33B are the only two courses taken at UCLA, hence why their UCLA GPA at the top corner only accounts for the two C+'s they received. Based on this UCLA GPA alone, they would not qualify to declare because the pre-Applied Math GPA requirement is 2.5. However, math advisors do not want to discredit the student's non-UCLA grades, so a manual GPA calculation is implemented to account for those grades.
Manual GPA Calculation: Math advisors will manually calculate student's GPA to account for the transferred grades they received in Math 31B, 32A, and 32B. The units that were transferred in will be disregarded, and units used at UCLA will be used instead. The AP score will not weigh into this manual GPA calculation.

| Math 31A | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A |
| Math 31B | A | 4 | 4 | 16 |
| Math 32A | B | 3 | 4 | 12 |
| Math 32B | B | 3 | 4 | 12 |
| Math 33A | C+ | 2.3 | 4 | 9.2 |
| Math 33B | C+ | 2.3 | 4 | 9.2 |
| Total Units | 20 | 58.2 |
Pre-Math GPA = Total Grade Points Granted (Col D) / Total Units Attempted (Col C) = 58.2 / 20 = 2.920
Based on the manual GPA calculation, this student meets the 2.5 pre-Math GPA requirement.
Example 3
Student transferred in with AP scores and course credit from another institution. The empty red box indicates no UCLA GPA was granted in this section of DARS because no courses here were taken at UCLA. Since there is no GPA indicated, math advisors will manually calculate the student's GPA to check that it meets the 2.5 minimum.

Pre-Math GPA = Total Grade Points Granted (Col D) / Total Units Attempted (Col C) = 52 / 16 = 3.250
Based on the manual GPA calculation, this student meets the 2.5 pre-Math GPA requirement.
Warning
Math advisors will manually calculate ALL students' GPA's with transferred credits. This means earning multiple C's at another institution can still weigh down your grade to below when manually calculated, even if it will not lower your UCLA GPA when transferred in. Students should still put effort into getting sufficient grades when taking non-UCLA courses.
