What's the difference between each course?
How do I enroll into Math 195, 197, or 199?
Here are the steps:
- Check each professor's profile in the UCLA Mathematics Directory to see who specializes in the topic you're interested in (UCLA Mathematics - Faculty Directory).
- All people listed in this directory are tenured faculty. Ignore "Professor Emeritis" as they are retired and may not be teaching anymore.
- If you do find a professor that specializes in your topic of interest, email them to ask if they can mentor you under Math 195, 197, or 199.
- Meet with them, virtually or in person, to create a contract/syllabus (See below for Details to Include in a Contract).
- Visit MyUCLA > Academics > Contract Course to find the module for creating your contract.
- If your advisor is tenured, you'll create the course under their name
- If your advisor is not tenured, you'll create the course under their faculty mentor's name. In the course description, you will clarify that you are actually working directly with the non-tenured professor.
- After submitting the contract through MyUCLA, email ugrad@math.ucla.edu. We will review your contract and provide feedback if anything needs to be revised. You do NOT need to get your professor's signature.
- Once the contract is approved, we will get your professor's signature on your behalf, we will enroll you into the contract course and email you with an update. You do not need to enroll yourself.
