Some courses have course, class standing, or major requisites/restrictions that students must satisfy at the time of or before enrolling.
Course Requisites
Course requisites are listed in the course description and in class information in MyUCLA and the Schedule of Classes.
Students can check if a prerequisite is warning or enforced by clicking on the yellow triangle next to the course listing > Checking the "Type" column (Sample Image Below).
| What do these requisites mean? | |
| Warning Requisite |
Prerequisite is highly recommended. MyUCLA issues a warning message that the requisite hasn't been met. However, you can still enroll into the course if you're confident that you can succeed. Note: Some courses are sequenced with their prerequisites. CONSULT WITH A MATH ADVISOR to make sure you won’t commit a sequence violation from taking courses out of order! If your course is a NON-MATH course (e.g., Physics, Chemistry, or Statistics), you can contact the related department to ask about their specific enforcements. |
| Enforced Requisite | MyUCLA issues a notice and prevents enrollment for reasons such as not meeting course prerequisites or not being declared in a specific major. |
Major and Class Standing Restrictions
Major/class standing restrictions are updated on our Enrollment Restrictions Calendar about 1 week before each enrollment period.
Students can find course requisites and restrictions on the Schedule of Classes (Sample Image Below). Please note that "Class Notes" will not always have information on when restrictions are lifted. To check this information, students should visit the Enrollment Restrictions Calendar.
